Happy Halloween!

Leading up to Halloween '05, one of my co-workers was talking about how excited she was for her costume and how much everyone would love it. Unfortunately, work got crazy and she was unable to wear it to the office. Over the past few weeks, she's returned with all of the hype. After a incredibly annoying and frustrated morning, I arrived at la oficina. I was determined not to be Debbie Downer, so I prepared myself to show enthusiasm and excitement over her costume.

She's sitting in her chair, wearing neat khakis, a tucked in pink button down (sans belt), brown shoes and glasses. Her long brown hair is pulled back. I think to myself, "Self, she looks kind of preppy / nerdy, but I really don't know what she's trying to pull off..."

Chip: "Happy Halloween!"
Co-Worker: Says nothing, waits for my reaction, smiling...
Chip: "uhh..." awkwardly, "What are you?"
Co-Worker: "I'm YOU!"
Chip: .................... "Oh, right..."
Co-Worker: "You wore your pink shirt on Halloween last year, so I was so mad I couldn't dress up! It would've been perfect!"
Chip: "Hahaha" fake laugh "Yeah, that would've been somethin'!"

There you have it, one of my co-workers dressed up as ME for Halloween. Uncomfortable to say the least. I'm a little flattered, I guess. Maybe I'm overreacting, but that was kind of weird.

Note: I have heard her talking of dressing up as some of her other friends for Halloween, so this is not an isolated occurrence.

How is that quintessentially "you," Chip? Does she have on a Hello My Name Is Chip name tag? Does everyone know you as a beltless wonder? Odd. Yes, flattering, but def. odd.

Wow. That is tres odd, Chip. I mean, I dress like you most every day... and I wear a "Hi, my name is Chip" button on my lapel. Wait, I've said too much. hmmmm.

How very drole! It must have taken her ages to think up of such a getup. I guess you should at least feel flattered that she chose you to be the butt of her joke. Perhaps you could threaten to dress up like her next year, but you don't own a "bedazzler" and wouldn't begin to know where to hunt down a vile of cat's pee...Happy Halloween.

I don't even know how to respond to that, except to say that she must really find you fascinating.

I would be scared to see someone dress as 'me' for halloween because it would give away people's true perception of me. I'd rather just not know...

Everyone's doubling up on comments today . . .

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, unless:
1. It's poor imitation, or
2. You find it hiding in your apartment when you get home after work.

I, personally, am a stereotype, so I see me everytime I go out. Someone dressing as me for Halloween would seem more like another member on the hayride. Its a slight on the creeps that she remembered what you wore a year ago. Does she have pictures of you pasted on the inside of a drawer in her office? {insert spooky music}
